CUPERTINO, CA - (June 23, 2008) - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the release of the new Symantec Endpoint Management Suite to define the next generation of integrated, best-of-breed systems management, endpoint security and backup and recovery. This first release of Endpoint Management Suite immediately delivers market-leading endpoint control and is built on the Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture to help protect a customer's investment by providing the ability to rapidly address future endpoint requirements.

IT organizations strive for confidence in their operating environment and understand that a truly secure endpoint is a well-managed endpoint. According to industry analysts, more than 90 percent of all system vulnerabilities can be eliminated through proper system configuration and patch management. The remaining vulnerabilities require multi-faceted protection against zero-day and new-breed security threats. In addition, a strong backup and recovery system is necessary to protect organizations against data loss, system failure, user error or disaster.

Symantec Endpoint Management Suite secures the endpoint by providing the leading technology in all three areas of system configuration: management, security and recovery. The suite includes Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0, Altiris Client Management Suite 6 and Backup Exec System Recovery 8 Desktop Edition. In addition, the suite leverages the Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture based on the Altiris service-oriented architecture and configuration management database (CMDB) to further drive the convergence of security and systems management.

The Symantec Open Collaborative Architecture is creating greater interoperability between Symantec solutions and provides partners and customers with the ability to integrate their applications with the Symantec platform. The Web services-based architecture provides data sharing and IT automation to streamline process execution and reduce the cost and risk of IT ownership.

Going forward, Symantec expects to utilize this Open Collaborative Architecture to quickly adapt to customers' most pressing requirements for business alignment, cost reduction, improved IT service, an enhanced end-user experience, and proactive security. Symantec solutions for data loss prevention, endpoint virtualization, network access control, endpoint encryption and automated IT process management are scheduled to be further integrated in the next version of this suite to help Symantec customers remain firmly in control of their endpoint computing environment.

"Symantec delivers the most comprehensive endpoint management solution combining market-leading technology and a service-oriented architecture," said Brad Kingsbury, senior vice president, Endpoint Security and Management, Symantec. "This initial release of Endpoint Management Suite includes best-of-breed management, security and recovery technology and is another important milestone in the delivery of our unified strategy for the endpoint. With leading endpoint virtualization, data loss prevention, data and system protection, IT process automation and network access control technologies, Symantec is uniquely positioned to help our customers be confident in the security and availability of the endpoint."

Symantec understands it takes multiple solutions to fully protect endpoint systems and data from cradle to grave. An integrated approach that combines management, security and recovery provides organizations with visibility into and control of an entire endpoint environment and can help eliminate exposure to security and compliance risks. Symantec Endpoint Management Suite will help create confidence in a stable and efficient endpoint operating environment.
